6-8 Math Blog

6^th Math: We began our review of equivalent fractions and comparing fractions last week. This week we will move into adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with like and unlike denominators. Next week we will engage in multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers as well as work on converting between fractions, decimals, and percents.

7^th and 8^th grade students have math notebooks in which all their math work is completed and saved. Every homework assignment should be recorded in their notebook at the end of class.

7^th Math: This week, we will finish the chapter in which the class examined addition and subtraction and how they apply to algebra, geometry, probability, and statistics by working with the fundamental relationship of triangle inequality. In a new chapter on geometry, the students will engage in different kinds of transformations as they explore symmetry. The following week we will delve into properties of angles and parallel lines.

Math Notebook

8^th Math: In the first weeks of the new term the 8^th grade class has split into smaller groups allowing for students to progress at an appropriate pace for each. They are working to write linear equations given slope–intercept, point-slope, and two points. From there they will move into solving pairs of simultaneous equations in two variables by using addition, subtraction, multiplication and substitution.
